The Masdar Initiative aims to accomodate the fundamental changes underway in the global energy balance, and to contribute substantially to sustainable development through significant investment in new technologies, research and specialist education.

Masdar offers a pro-active response to today's energy and environmental challenges. The Masdar Research Network comprises six leading scientific research institutions spread over three continents: Aachen University (Germany); Columbia University (USA); German Aerospace Agency (Germany); Imperial College London (UK); Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan); and University of Waterloo (Canada). On the corporate side, the Initiative has attracted some of the global leaders in sustainable energy and clean-tech development, including GE, BP, Shell, Mitsubishi, Rolls Royce, Total, Mitsui and others, as core strategic partners.
